Vintage Notes
Bud break occurred the last week of February at Riverbench Vineyard. Weather conditions were favorable for a good set. This year proved to be another very cool spring and summer without much rain. The conditions were ideal for the formation of small clusters and small berries. Temperatures were moderate for most of August and stayed that way throughout harvest. Quality was high and flavors and characters were concentrated. We had great color development on the Pinot Noir in Santa Maria Valley. Quantity was up from 2011, with an average of about 3 tons per acre on our nearly 40 year old vines. Other regions of the state experienced a good amount of rain during harvest. We were blessed to have all fruit in house and processed before the pattern of rains began mid-October.
